ROCK star cum Federal Minister for the Environment, Peter Garrett, will be burning the Midnight Oil tonight allegedly on behalf of bushfire victims.

He would have been better to stay well enough away where the stench of his hypocrisy could not be detected.

Garrett is joined at the hip with the greens who formulate and oversee the kinds of policies and management that led to Black Saturday.

He is a leader of the "manufactured" fire brigade and has to take some responsibility for the tragedy that occurred that day. He has asked his department to list fuel reduction burning as a - Threatening Process - under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.

He is a hypocrite not only because he is purporting to honour the victims of a tragedy cultivated by people of he and his ilk but because he also sings about giving Australia back to indigenous people while his own actions as a radical environmentalist show his disdain and contempt for their traditional custodianship.

the time has come, to say fair's fair
to pay the rent, to pay our share

the time has come, a fact's a fact
it belongs to them, let's give it back

As I said - HYPOCRITE! Garrett is a member of the wilderness brotherhood which seeks to exclude people from the land, lock it up and let nature take its course. He knows well that the result of that would be an environmental landscape which would bear no resemblance to that which existed under Aboriginal management. He doesn't believe in what he sings.

He should have done the decent thing and stayed away. Instead he's going to rock over the memories of those who died due to the policies of those like him. How did he "sleep when their beds were burning?"
